Baggage / Prohibited Articles
Article 3 of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 68/2004 lays down the measures for the implementation of the common basic standards on aviation security that must be observed by both Members States and air companies registered in them, in order to avoid articles that are prohibited from being carried by passengers into restricted areas of airports and on board aircrafts. Due to the continuous evolution of the type of arms, objects, materials and substances that can be used to commit unlawful acts, the list of prohibited articles can never be exhaustive and shall always be subject to subsequent amendments as new items or forms of threat are detected that jeopardise the safety of aircraft operations. The list of prohibited articles should be accessible to the public and should set out separately articles are prohibited from being carried by passengers into restricted areas and the cabin of an aircraft and those articles that are prohibited from being carried in baggage intended for stowage in the aircraft’s hold.The list of prohibited articles on passenger aircrafts shall be available at check-in desks.

Passengers are not allowed to carry the following articles to restricted areas and to the cabin of aircrafts:

a) Firearms and Weapons

Any object which is capable or appears to be capable of firing a projectile and causing injury, including the following:

All manner of firearms (pistols, revolvers, rifles, carbines, shotguns, etc). Replica and imitation firearms. Components or parts of firearms (excluding telescopic sights and viewfinders). Air pistols, air rifles, and pellet or plastic bullet guns and rifles. Signal flare pistols, blank or starting pistols, detonators and industrial bolt and nail guns. Crossbows, bow and arrows, catapults, slingshots, harpoon guns and harpoons. Animal humane killers. Stun or shocking devices. For example, taser guns for animals. Lighters shaped like firearms .

b) Pointed edged weapons or sharp objects

Any pointed edged or sharp object which is capable or appears to be capable of causing injury, including the following:

Axes and hatchets of any size, arrows and darts. Crampons (article used to walk on ice in mountaineering which is attached to the shoe or boot). Harpoons, spears used in underwater fishing. Ice picks and axes used in mountaineering. Ice skates. Knives or automatic knives with blades of any length. Knives, including ceremonial knives with blades over 6 centimetres in length, made from metal or any other resistant material that can be used as a weapon. Meat cleavers. Machetes. Razor blades (except razors with the blade incorporated in the cartridge). Sabres, swords and swordsticks. Scalpels. Scissors with blades over 6 centimetres in length. Skis, ski poles and hiking poles. Shuriken (hand-held blades used in martial arts). Tradesmen's tools that could potentially be used as a sharp pointed weapon. For example, drills, cutters, saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, universal wrenches/wheel wrenches, welding torches .

c) Blunt Instruments

Any blunt instrument which is capable or appears to be capable of causing injury, including the following:

Baseball and softball bats. Sticks, clubs, rigid or flexible batons. For example, batons and truncheons. Golf clubs. Cricket bats. Hockey and lacrosse sticks. Kayak or canoe paddles. Stakeboards. Pool, snooker and billiard cues.
